EverGlow produces UL1994 Listed Exit Path Markings in HI150, HI300 and TL300 luminance grades and with different materials to meet or exceed the specific performance requirements for your installation. These signs and markings also meet CAN/ULC-S572 performance standards required for use in Canada. Data collected by UL and EverGlow clearly show that light sources that emit energy in the UV region of the electromagnetic spectrum charge strontium aluminum (SrAl) pigments much better than lighting sources that emit energy only in the visible blue portion of the spectrum. Electrical lighting manufacturers describe these colors as cool white, bright white, warm and soft white. Lamps and luminaires with higher color temperatures generally out-perform those with lower color temperatures.

OSHA CITES 2009 INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE AS EXIT ROUTES OPTION.
The International Code Council announced this month that the US Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration now
recognizes the 2009 IFC as an alternate compliance option for means of egress in OSHA standards.
Richard Weiland, CEO of the International Code Council, thanked OSHA for recognizing the safety attributes of the IFC code as well as the
professional expertise and science that goes into the code's development. Further, Mr. Weiland stated that OSHA's recognition of the IFC will
save money by eliminating the need to demonstrate compliance with dual regulations, and by avoiding potential construction modifications due to
conflicting codes. (EverGlow comment: OSHA has generally recognized the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code for this purpose; some parts of the IFC and
NFPA 101 have conflicting language. Additionally, OSHA has traditionally preferred the manner that NFPA develops their ANSI approved Life Safety Code, to the
way that the ICC develops their codes.)

There are significant risks associated with the radioactive tritium in radioluminescent exit signs. When those signs are abused or disposed
of improperly, there is an adverse impact on the environment and those working around the contamination. For facility managers & owners, the potential
for broken signs and lock-outs during the clean-up phase of the recovery means these signs should only be used where they are absolutely necessary.
There are an estimated 2,000,000 radioluminescent exit signs in use in the United States. Every year, 200,000 of those signs reach the expiration
date printed on the sign. That is, the radioactive decay of the tritium in the signs is no longer sufficient to make the phosphor glow enough
to meet code and performance requirements. Sales of radioactive tritium exit signs have decreased since the peak sales years 1988-1992. Some of these
signs are being replaced with photoluminescent exit signs, some are being used beyond their expiration date, and some have been replaced by electrical
LED exit signs.
MODEL CODES INCREASE REQUIREMENTS FOR PHOTOLUMINESCENT SIGNS & MARKINGS.
The ICC, administrators of the International Codes and specifically the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Fire Code (IFC), and NFPA, the
provider of the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), have published the 2009 editions of their various model codes and standards.
All of the 2009 model codes have new and specific language to promote the use of NON-ELECTRICAL Exit Path Markings and Photoluminescent Signs & Markings to supplement
electrical emergency lighting and signs. Officials responsible for fire and life safety now recognize that electrical lighting alone - normal lighting and emergency lighting -
do not provide the full measure of evacuation safety provided by both electrical and non-electrical emergency lighting. To provide for safer & faster evacuations, the new code
language provides emergency lighting for evacuations in full lighting, emergency lighting and totally dark conditions.
The new building and fire code language also requires building owners, facility managers, architects and engineers to identify and mark exits in high rise buildings more completely, more clearly and more reliably.
If the model code language is adopted by the various jurisdictions around the country in essentially the form it is written, many existing and new high rise buildings will have photoluminescent
exit path markings and signs installed.
The IBC & IFC (2009 Editions) require NON-ELECTRICAL exit path markings in new & existing high rise buildings having occupied floors more than 75 feet high:

The NFPA 101 (2009 Edition) does not require exit path markings. If photoluminescent, or other NON-ELECTRICAL exit path markings are installed in high rise buildings, there are similar requirements for placement and

EverGlow NA, Inc. has just started up our new website, hosted in the United States. We are now utilizing the familiar web address for our company, located near
Charlotte, NC. Our email and website are now hosted on the same servers and we hope this will be less confusing for our customers and visitors. For now, we

SAFER BUILDINGS ARE THE GOAL OF NEW CODE CHANGES BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS FROM NIST WORLD TRADE CENTER INVESTIGATION.
Future buildings - especially tall structures - should be increasingly resistant to fire, more easily evacuated in emergencies,
and safer overall thanks to 23 major and far-reaching building and fire code changes approved recently by the International Code
Council (ICC) based on recommendations from the Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR MIKE EASLEY SIGNS BILL SPECIFYING USE OF PHOTOLUMINESCENT EXIT SIGNS.
Senate Bill 1946, ďAn act to codify the standards governing energy efficiency and water use for major facility construction and renovation projects
involving state, university, and community college buildings in order to reduce the consumption of energy and water, as recommended by the
Environmental Review Commission, and to allow the state, the University of North Carolina system, and the North Carolina Community College System
to install photoluminescent exit signs when permitted by the state building code.Ē The bill was sponsored by Sen. Janet Cowell (D-Wake).

EVERGLOW CERTIFIES ZERO ENERGY CONSUMPTION FOR ALL HIGH PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS.
In response to the suspension of ENERGY STAR listings for energy efficient exit signs, EverGlow has begun to certify that all our high performance photoluminescent
products consume ZERO energy.
EverGlow signs, markers, coatings and films are charged by sunlight and overhead lighting- they do not require attachment to the electric grid; they
do not contribute to global warming. Our eco-friendly and responsible manufacturing processes also contribute to our record low impact
on the environment. All high performance products are certified to be high in recycled content and also can be completely and safely recycled.
EverGlow recognizes that responsible building owners and facility managers are looking for safe, reliable and effective substitutes for electrical
emergency lighting and exit signs. Our photoluminescent signs and markers are non-electric, meet all applicable building, fire and life safety codes
and are important components of complete reliable and effective life safety systems.

ENERGY STAR Suspends Specification for EXIT Signs. In November, 2007, the US Environmental Protection Agency notified all stakeholders
that, effective 1 May 2008, the ENERGY STAR specification will be suspended because research indicates that the performance and longevity of
(electrical) signs could be compromised if the input power demand is driven below five watts per sign. During the comment period for this change,
a majority of stakeholders encouraged EPA to maintain the specification for exit signs. A majority of those who commented asked EPA to make a
significant revision to the specification.
EPA indicated they might consider a revised ENERGY STAR program for Exit Signs as energy efficient technologies evolve, improve and mature.
Photoluminescent exit signs can currently meet a more stringent specification and are the only lighting technology available today that meets
the performance requirements of UL924 without the use of radioactive components or lamps and circuitry containing heavy metals. EverGlow
exit signs contain no radioactive or toxic components.
EPA stated earlier that there are more than 100 million exit signs in buildings throughout the US. These signs operate 24 hours per day, 365 days
per year and cost $1 billion annually to operate. Using energy efficient exit signs could save $15 - $20 per year per sign (compared to incandescent
exit signs). This is a total savings of 800,000 megawatts of electricity and $70 million each year.
EPA, over the life of the EXIT Sign specification, encouraged building owners and facility managers to replace or convert many incandescent and fluorescent
EXIT signs to LED, photoluminescent and radioluminescent lighting technology. The net result was a significant savings in electrical energy consumed by older exit signs.
There is much more energy and money to be saved by replacing LED and any remaining electrical EXIT signs with photoluminescent EXIT signs, where appropriate.
Note that EverGlow photoluminescent exit signs consume no electricity and require no lamps, batteries or wiring. There is virtually no maintenance
required for our exit signs.
EverGlow NA Eliminates PVC Products in North America - EverGlow NA has joined the growing list of companies that are phasing
out the manufacture or sale of products containing polyvinyl chloride. Although PVC is not widely banned by legislation today, it
is a product we voluntarily choose not to use. Further, there are significant problems with the durability of this product.
PVC, a plastic also know as polyvinyl chloride or vinyl, flexible vinyl or rigid vinyl, has been linked to a wide variety of health hazards
through the release of toxic chemicals in landfills. When discarded, vinyl releases dioxins, among the most toxic of synthetic chemicals
ever tested. Dioxins released from vinyl products can alter liver function, harm the immune and reproductive systems and cause cancer.
Vinyl films contain plasticizers or softeners to increase their flexibility. These plasticizers most often contain a family of chemicals
called phthalates. These chemicals can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs and reproductive system.
If improperly recycled, one PVC bottle can render 100,000 PET recycled bottles unusable. PVC content is often disguised in many products
and its use in the sign industry is widespread because of the low cost of this film.
ICC and NFPA have recently published code changes. New language includes requirements for
non-electric (photoluminescent) luminous exit path marking. EverGlow has summarized these changes
to the codes.
ICC has Published the 2007 Supplement to the IFC 2006 Edition - Language included to require<
non-electric (photoluminescent) luminous exit path marking. The International Fire Code, published by
ICC, is a widely accepted model fire code used in the United States. For photoluminescent exit signs, the
language has been rewritten to clearly require that all "Internally Illuminated Exit Signs"- electrical,
self-luminous and photoluminescent- shall be listed and labeled in accordance with UL924. All exit signs
shall be illuminated at all times. The new language is in Section 1011.4.

EverGlow is pleased to announce that we have moved our offices to Matthews, NC. This move will
bring us physically closer to our employees, local suppliers and other business partners. In addition,
we can provide better service to our customers and now have more room to expand our operations as
we grow our business in North America.
Our new location on Industrial Drive is just south of Charlotte, NC and is in a recently renovated
light industrial facility. We will spend the next few weeks moving equipment into the new location
and anticipate no interruptions in our activities or deliveries.

INTERNATIONAL CODE COUNCIL VOTES TO INCLUDE NEW YORK CITY'S HIGH-RISE EMERGENCY EVACUATION STANDARD
IN THE INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE. New York City, Department of Buildings.
The NYC Photoluminescent Regulation developed in 2004-2005, RS 6-1, will serve as the model for
municipalities across the country. Following the vote by ICC membership attending the code hearings
in Rochester, NY, the IBC will include the requirements for installation of exit path markings in the
stairwells of most new high-rise buildings over 75 feet in height.
